Located in East Meadow, Nassau University Medical Center is the only public safety net hospital and community health care center in Nassau County. We are a Level I Trauma Center and a 530-bed teaching hospital.
We are seeking a well-qualified Director of Infection Control.
In this position you will:
• Direct the Nassau Health Care Corporation (NHCC) Infection Prevention and Control Program.
• Develops, implements and communicates Nassau Health Care Corporation’s infection prevention goals, objective, policies and precures, ensure alignment with NHCC’s organizational goals.
• Oversees financial management of the department, including department budget, capital, and revenue projections.
• Organizes, implements, and reviews NHCC’s infection surveillance and risk assessment activities in accordance with internal and external guidelines.
• Identifies and ensures resolution of infection risks to patients, employees and the community; leads investigation on infections, clusters, and exposures implementing risk reduction strategies; act as liaison with governing agencies
• Provide infection control information to staff, patients, visitors, schools, and local, state and federal health departments.
• Regularly reports on NHCC’s infection prevention performance, and proposes corrective actions to hospital leadership and appropriate local and state agencies

Responsibilities
The Senior Program Coordinator will be work in the Central Office of the Bureau of Healthcare Associated Infections and will work with senior staff to develop the NYSDOH’s antimicrobial stewardship (AS) efforts. The incumbent will be expected to develop and maintain technical knowledge and understanding of AS principles across the healthcare spectrum. The incumbent will take a leadership role in AS activities and oversee the coordination of AS activities. Activities will include working with stakeholders to develop and maintain awareness of AS activities occurring in NYS and nationally, identify and use data from a variety of sources to identify trends and inform development of AS promotional activities and educational materials (e.g., National Healthcare Safety Network, NYS State Aid Applications, Medicaid data), and engage healthcare facilities to ensure the appropriate use of antibiotics throughout a variety of healthcare settings. The incumbent will ensure that health equity indicators are incorporated into all aspects of the work. Working with senior staff, the incumbent will also engage with Local Health Departments (LHDs) to support AS work occurring at LHDs and determine additional support that may be needed. The incumbent will participate in CDC-led activities, as needed, to successfully achieve the goal to improve appropriate use of antibiotics in NYS.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in a related field and four years of program coordination experience in a public health, health, or human services-related program or community-based organization; OR an Associate’s degree in a related field and six years of such experience; OR eight years of such experience. The experience must have been contributing toward the development, implementation and/or evaluation of a program, project, or other related activities. At least two years of experience must have included supervision of staff and/or program management. A master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience. Two years of qualifying experience must include program management and/or the supervision of staff.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's or graduate degree in infection control, biology, statistics, public health, epidemiology, nursing, or a related field. Infectious disease pharmacist or clinical pharmacist with experience leading or participating in an institutional antibiotic stewardship program. At least three years’ work experience in antibiotic stewardship, quality improvement in healthcare settings, public health surveillance, healthcare-associated infection surveillance, and/or related public health activities. Experience leading quality improvement projects. Knowledge of antibiotic stewardship related principles. Demonstrated experience writing reports or similar written communication and providing presentations. Experience with health-related data sets or disease registries and working with confidential data. Experience with information technology and systems used for electronic public health reporting. Experience supervising staff.
Conditions of Employment

Working with senior staff, the incumbent will also engage with Local Health Departments (LHDs) to support AS work occurring at LHDs and determine additional support that may be needed. The incumbent will participate in CDC-led activities, as needed, to successfully achieve the goal to improve appropriate use of antibiotics in NYS.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in a related field and four years of program coordination experience in a public health, health, or human services-related program or community-based organization; OR an Associate’s degree in a related field and six years of such experience; OR eight years of such experience. The experience must have been contributing toward the development, implementation and/or evaluation of a program, project, or other related activities. At least two years of experience must have included supervision of staff and/or program management. A master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience. Two years of qualifying experience must include program management and/or the supervision of staff.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's or graduate degree in infection control, biology, statistics, public health, epidemiology, nursing, or a related field. Infectious disease pharmacist or clinical pharmacist with experience leading or participating in an institutional antibiotic stewardship program. At least three years’ work experience in antibiotic stewardship, quality improvement in healthcare settings, public health surveillance, healthcare-associated infection surveillance, and/or related public health activities. Experience leading quality improvement projects. Knowledge of antibiotic stewardship related principles. Demonstrated experience writing reports or similar written communication and providing presentations. Experience with health-related data sets or disease registries and working with confidential data. Experience with information technology and systems used for electronic public health reporting. Experience supervising staff.
Conditions of Employment
Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.
Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Travel, up to 25% of the time, will be required.
This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.
