CONGRATULATIONS to our APIC Greater NY Chapter 13
National APIC announced that we are a 2012 IIPW Chapter Grant WINNER!
In keeping an intent focus on growing awareness and celebration of International
Infection Prevention Week (IIPW), October 14-20, 2012, APIC has continued the
chapter grant program to encourage chapter participation in IIPW and to promote
new and creative ideas for raising public awareness. The 2012 IIPW Chapter
Grant Program was open to all APIC chapters that were interested in hosting
an infection prevention activity for IIPW.
Our chapter was awarded a grant for our community
outreach project, educating and promoting infection prevention in local shelters
and group homes in New York City.
We offer a special thank you to the team who prepared and submitted this successful grant - and who pioneered this activity for our chapter in late 2011.
2011 ICT Who's Who in Infection Prevention - Features one of our own!
Infection Preventionists face numerous challenges to ensure that healthcare workers comply with infection control principles and practices, and work diligently to meet ever-evolving demands in the healthcare industry. The monthly journal Infection Control Today (ICT) salutes outstanding infection preventionists, as nominated by ICT readers for the 2011 Who's Who in Infection Prevention, published June 14, 2011.
Our own chapter member, George Allen, from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, has been recognized by ICT in this Who's Who. APIC Greater NY Chapter 13 celebrates and congratulates George for this special honor! To view the entire "Who's Who" gallery from ICT, click here.
New Materials Out There! The Joint Commission (TJC) has published an important monograph on prevention of CLABSI in May 2012. Download your copy right here!
NHSN, in May 2011, released its 2009 report for device-associated infections including CLABSI, CAUTI, & VAP. To get a copy of this great report so you can benchmark your units against the NHSN, just click here.
In mid-May 2011, HHS unveiled a new interactive video about preventing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). These self-paced interactive computer-based video simulation training programs allow the user to "become" one of five characters role playing a healthcare scenario. The videos share knowledge of standard and isolation precautions to take in various healthcare settings. To get started, just go to this link: http://www.hhs.gov/ash/initiatives/hai/training/

Speaker's Bureau -- Infection Prevention Speakers Available!
One of the most important roles of the Association of Professionals in Infection Control & Epidemiology (APIC) is education about the prevention of health care associated infections.
